Pretty Soon It’ll Seem Like Old Times

Yanks-Sox brawl.jpg
ESPN announced their lineup of Sunday night games the other day, and their second one of the season – the April 10th contest – will be Yankees/Red Sox at Fenway. I realize it’s still January but seeing that actual games will be played on actual dates makes the start of the 2011 campaign seem more real, doesn’t it? Like it’s really happening? It does to me.
Of course, while certain aspects of Yankees-Red Sox will seem like old times (the “Yankee suck” chants, the lusty boos for A-Rod and Tex, the presence of familiar villains like Pedroia and Youkilis), it’ll be interesting to see how newcomers Crawford and Gonzalez play into The Rivalry. And it’ll be weird not to have Joe Morgan and Jon Miller to kick around anymore.
The good news is that spring really is around the corner, despite this photo that Friend of the Blog John (aka ooaooa) sent me of his picturesque, snow-covered backyard. Gotta love his taste in barns.

Just gotta love it! My barn makes it to the BIG STAGE! My son’s hard work years ago finally gets NATIONAL RECOGNITION. You should also know that the houses all around me are occupied by Red Sox fans.
FYI, Joba WILL be a starter AGAIN.

That barn deserves national recognition, John. Please tell your son that I love his handiwork, especially because it must rankle your neighbors every time they see it. LOL. And no, Joba will not be a starter again, just like Jonathan Abs was not our savior in the pen last year!

Don King? Not getting the reference, Paul, unless you’re talking about John’s “big stage” comment? Sorry to be dense.

    Jane,
With Spring game starting the last week in February this season, it is going to be a fast and furious season. Kind of seems weird that by October 1st it will be postseason this year, but I guess that is better than playing until Thanksgiving.
Just do not forget who you play in your last series of the year. It might have some grave consequences of its own.
BTW, what is that white stuff? We have so far been the only US state without anyof that white stuff so many are complaining about….(hehehe).

I won’t forget who we play at the end of the season, Renegade. That will seem like old times too and sure to be tension filled. As for the white stuff, while it’s true that there’s snow in the mountains of Cali, it’s a balmy 75 today in Santa Barbara and I’m at the beach!

Idk abt you guys but every time AGon speaks he seems scared.. If the benches clear.. He’ll probably be the last guy out making sure by the time he’s out the fight is over.. LOL.

We’ll see though, coming from a division where rivals are SF, COL & LAD.. I just dk if he’s ready for this Yankees vs RedSock stuff. lol

Oh cool shed! I definitely admire creative people doing creative things. (It’d be prettier red with a big A on it, of course, but we all have our biases, he he) So when the Yankees take the Red Sox out to the woodshed this season – because it’s bound to happen a time or more – I will now have the specific woodshed in mind :).

AGon seems scared, Antonella? I haven’t heard him speak since he went to Boston so I’m unaware. I do think he’ll have a bit of a wake up call when he starts playing in the rough and tumble AL East. It’s no picnic.

HAHA, Kristen. Love the woodshed comment. John has now planted an image in my mind for the series in Boston! Thanks for that.

Good point about the neighbors, Ron. LOL. Maybe John has an electric fence around his property and a big No Trespassing sign!

Well, maybe it was just me.. I’ve only heard him say whatever he said during his press conference when they announced the deal but umm.. “I’m ready to beat the Yanks…. *INSERT AWKWARD SMILE HERE*” lol. He just gives me that vibe. We’ll see though.

I remember when he said that now, Antonella. But I think it’s something they all say when they get to Boston, as if it’s part of the deal. We’ll see soon enough how he likes playing us.
