I don’t want to talk about it

But I’m talking about it anyway.

It’s official: I now hate the Rangers.
If I were a Yankee I’d go out there today and beat them into submission.
On the other hand, I hate that the Yankees left a billion runners on base the last two nights.
I hate that Brett Gardner’s hurt, that he’s been playing hurt, that he’s looked awful.
I hate that Swisher’s hurt, that he’s been playing hurt, that his numbers are down.
I hate that Jeter’s been playing like he’s hurt but is just “in a funk.”
I hate that A-Rod’s big hit in the eighth was wasted.
I hate when any Yankee grounds into a double play.
I hate that we’re stuck with Austin Kearns.
I hate that the arms of our relievers are probably as effective as wet noodles.
I hate that we lost and Tampa won – again.
I hate that Roger Federer lost the U.S. Open semis yesterday.
I hate that it’s raining on my last day in CT.
I hate that I have to fly back to CA tomorrow where there are hardly any Yankee fans.
But most of all, I hate that Mo blew the save. The very idea gives me nightmares.

Good morning, Jane. I don’t want to talk about it either. What upsets me even more is the fact that Cliff Lee is pitching today. Cliff Lee should be playing for us, not Texas. Yankee woes aside, I will comment that Nolan Ryan is doing a good job for Texas. We’ve all seen him from his seats near home plate. He’s calling the shots. So props to him, but not really when it means our Yanks losing. Cliff Lee better become a Yankee this offseason.
In happier news, I came home from a crummy day at work to read that I will be in attendance for Andy Pettitte’s Baltimore start. HECK YEAH!!! I almost spontaneously combusted last night. He’s my favorite baseball player of all-time. I even had an essay I wrote about him published in Yankees magazine. I also got to ask him a question that appeared on the big screen at Yankee Stadium. I’m still working on converting my VHS footage of him saying my name and answering my question…and putting his response on YouTube. So yes…I’m excited about seeing him pitch in Baltimore.
Alright, hope the Yanks can win today. THEY BETTER! We’re facing the Rays soon. We must hold onto the #1 spot in the AL East. Have a great day fans!!! – Becky :D

Sometimes the Yankees have better luck against “aces” than they do against pitchers they haven’t faced ever or often, Becky, so I hold out hope that they can beat Lee today. Very cool that you’ll be seeing your boy Pettitte! I’d love to watch your YouTube video of him if you get it uploaded there, so let us know.

The 9th inning was ugly. When Mo walked the leadoff batter I knew it wasn’t going to go well.
Does anyone enjoy Paul O’Neil as much as me? I think he and Kay are the rebirth of Frank Messer and “The Scooter”. I love their banter.
Safe trip home.

I love O’Neill too, John. He sort of humanizes Kay and their banter is funny. Wish he were in the booth all the time. Sorry to be leaving your state of CT. We really had a great time here.

Your optimism is such a breath of fresh air, Melissa. After the last two “nightmares” you still find a way to love baseball and the agony of defeat! lol. O’Neill is hilarious, especially when he talks about food, his family, golf. His perspective on the game is great too, of course, but it’s the “side stuff” I really love.

I want to hug Mo too, Sarah. I know he usually brushes off losses, but I think he’s kicking himself for walking Guerrero most of all. Poor baby!

Funny you should mention nightmares. For the last two nights I’ve listened to the game in bed with the pillow speaker. (Last night I woke up when the Rangers went ahead, then woke up again just as Mo hit the batter.)
For the last two mornings, when I told my husband what happened, he said ” You must have had a nightmare.”

Did I hate that the game ended that way last night? YES! But . . . isn’t it also why we love baseball? I don’t think any other sport lends itself to those sort of moments. But I really wish more of those kinds of moments would end up in the Yankees favor. Sigh.

And yes, I love O’Neill! Who would have thought a guy who routinely destroyed water coolers would be so self-depreciating, charming and funny!

Melissa

I really can’t wait for the Yankees to get out of Texas. What a horrible way to lose. Whenever Mo blows a save I just want to find him and hug him because I feel bad. Everyone has such high expectations… that when he actually doesn’t do his job, it’s just a shock. But, these tough losses make the wins that much sweeter, so although they’re no fun, they’re necessary.

You sound SO jaded that I thought you were a Cubs fan for a second! See, things could be worse ;-)

You’re right, Paul. My mother told us kids never to use the word “hate.” So I will substitute “intense dislike” in every instance in this post.

Not jaded, Jeff. Mad! Big difference. There’s no passion in “jaded.”

Being on the East Coast (and a teacher who just started the year) there was no way I was staying up until the end. BUT whenever I go to bed without knowing if the Yankees won or lost, I have these half asleep/half awake “dreams” of different game scenarios. It happens every time! Sometimes the Yanks win, sometimes the Yanks lose, and I always wake up confused as heck. Ironically, what *actually* happened to end last night’s game is a perfect example of what happens in my crazy dreams; just bizarre things happening everywhere. What a nightmare.

A nightmare is right, aeh813. I could imagine Mo walking a guy. I could even imagine him giving up a homer. But to allow a hit by pitch decide the game? Not in my wildest dreams.

I got my attitude from my dad. He loved baseball passionately. When the Yankees would lose in the playoffs, he would always shrug and say “It’s good for baseball when another team wins.”

Of course he also would say “Yankees. Bow your head with respect when you say that name.”

Melissa

What a wonderful role model your dad was, Melissa. Such a great attitude about winning and losing. Now I understand where you get it from!

Jane,
“Hate” is such a bad word, but I do understand your reasoning and the stress and strain added to your love for the Yankees right now.
This is the time of the year both of ur teams will trade puches and swipes until that finally weekend will ring the bell for one of us.
Every team has these “hateful” moments. The Yankees maybe might be getting the rust out now with pure indications of a slugging October…But then again, we never know.
Sorry my namesake is causing you “hate” in your heart right now. But I know the “love” goes deeper within you.

Rays Renegade

You know I could never hate you or even your namesake, Renegade. I’m just so frustrated by our neck and neck battle. You love the excitement of the race, but I’m such a coward!

Well I think it’s the beginning of the end this season. They’ll blow the division lead and then somehow the wild card. The Reds will win the World Series; Jeter won’t be resigned and he’ll be on the White Sox next year; Arod will somehow….Aw just kidding, but I hate this post! Not because you wrote it Jane, but because it’s all true. They really showed some fire today…. (More like fire ants were in their pants and they couldn’t do anything…) Oh well, on to more humiliation…. Sorry about Federer too… I was rooting for Djovovo XD

There you go again, seindsfeld. All those worst case scenarios. I was in a hating mood when I wrote the post and I didn’t feel a whole lot better after Sunday’s loss. But…today is a new day so we have hope for a victory tonight. Since you’re rooting for the Djokester, I hope it’s a good match today. Nadal will be tough to beat.
