Poor CC

CC.Girardi.jpg
Tonight’s whipping by the O’s was frustrating, disappointing and downright maddening. I was really hoping CC would be his usual dominant self, stop the Yankees’ little losing streak and notch his 20th win. But not only did he not get #20, he was bad. Like mediocre bad. So the question is, was he just having an off night or is there something more serious going on? Like maybe he has a phobia about the number 20, the way some people fear the number 13, and whenever he approaches a possible 20th win he thinks he’s being attacked by a flesh eating virus.

Well? I’m just trying to figure out why he’s never won 20 games before and why he stunk tonight. Of course the offense didn’t exactly contribute much, not even when the O’s made mistakes we should have taken advantage of. I hate losing, so I’m throwing myself into the U.S. Open where Venus and her pink sequined dress, Federer and his between-his-legs shot and Nadal and his famous wedgies are far more entertaining at the moment.

I was not optimistic about our pitching staff before, but at least CC had been the savior. What’s left? Oh, the Rays are catching up and they have a better pitching staff. Sorry, I am very doom and gloom tonight. Marcus Thames can hit all the home runs he wants, but it doesn’t matter if the other team scores more runs…

Well I think it’s the beginning of the end this season. They’ll blow the division lead and then somehow the wild card. The Reds will win the World Series; Jeter won’t be resigned and he’ll be on the White Sox next year; Arod will somehow opt-out his contract and play for Tampa; Posada will spontaneously retire and move to Jeter’s Island where they’ll open an all night bar; Burnett will be traded for Manny Ramirez who’s back will go out after the first game in 2011; Girardi will coach for the Cubs and the only other player the Yankees are able to get is Bernie Williams who suddenly felt like he could play again after never officially retiring. Okay, just kidding, I guess it’s not that bad yet, but it seems that way. The thing I’m most pissed about is CC has been giving them Cy Young starts this whole year and the one time he has a really bad start the offense can’t pick him up. That was really funny with the flesh eating virus theory though XD

That was the second worse game I have seen in person. When I sat down the bases were already loaded with no outs and things never got better. Boooooo!!!!!

It was easy to feel doom and gloom after that game, Scott. But in the light of day I realized that because CC has been our savior, as you rightly say, he’s entitled to a couple of bad starts during an entire season – still pretty amazing. It’s just magnified when the offense shuts down and the Rays win and there are only 20 something games left. Wrong time to stink!

HAHA, seindsfeld. And I thought my worst case scenarios from a few weeks ago were scary. We can’t panic, because we’re still in first place and this is still a very good team, give or take a few pitchers. CC has been brilliant, so we really can’t blame him for a bad night. There might be something to the 20-game thing though. He’s never done it. He needs to do it.

Ooooh, so sorry you had to be there for that game, cheshirecat. I would have felt the same way, getting to my seat only to find they had the bases loaded. Last year’s team used to come back from scores like that, but not so much this year.

I understand your frustration, but stilll, 15-18 wins a year… for as long as he’s done it… that’s impressive.

Very impressive, Jeff. He’s so close to getting #20 and has maybe four more starts to do it. I really hope he finds a way to do it, because he’s so deserving.

I had the same thought, ladyjane – at least the game was over in time to switch over to the tennis. So you’re rooting for Raffa? I’m a Federer girl. What can I say? I’d like to see Venus take it too, since she’s the only American left. (Was really sorry Querrey lost.) That said, I’ve always liked Clisters. Joe does look thin in that pic, but I think everybody looks thin next to CC. lol

The road is full of bumps, Sue, but I sure wish they didn’t come during the last month of the season. Grrrrr. It’s usually the team that’s hot down the stretch that wins it all.

The whole game was bad, but the worst was that bottom of the 7th suck-a-thon, where we had every opportunity to have a BIG inning and came away with nothing. We knew we’d see A-Rod if Pena’s spot came up; we willed that dropped pop-up. And we came away with nothing. Who could have predicted that the offensive star of the evening would be Lance Berkman? Is this the same team that took 3 out of 4 from the Jays last week? Only good thing was that the game was over early enough that I was able to make it home in time to see Raffa’s match at the US Open. I’m rooting for him to take the whole thing. Sounds like yesterday was the best day of the tournament so far – so many 5-setters! Sorry to see all the American men gone. Can’t wait to see what Venus pulls out of the closet for her next match.
Fingers crossed for today’s game – we cannot be swept by the O’s!
Jane

By the way, Joe looks awfully thin in that picture. Is it him, or is the the optical illusion of standing next to CC?

I feel your frustration, Jane. It sucks when your team, and your ace, get knocked around by a team as dreadful as the Orioles. Hopefully it is just a minor bump on the road to October.

Rants, Raves, and Random Thoughts

O, my.
Clearly, this is Revenge Of The Buck. Saw a stat today that showed the AL East standings since Buck took over the O’s, and after last nite, the team with the best record in the division is…the O’s. And of course we’re not done with ‘em…today (and another NEW pitcher, or at least to Yank bats…more worry), and three in Camden Yards, at the end of that 9-game roadie that now looks very daunting. O for a pitcher…or three…Andy, where can you be??
I’m in a funk after a long long long nite at FedEx Field, watching Va-Tech lose to Boise St. in the last minute. Not a lot of fun. On the long long walk back to our car in the far far out parking lot, I fell off a flimsy foot bridge (no railings) in the middle of some woods that my mountain goat sons were traversing as a short cut — never even saw it in the dark (it was after midnight) and fell into a creek — perfect ending to a lousy day (oh, and of course the Yanks had already lost that afternoon…when it rains…) So there ain’t no joy in Mudville. Let’s hope we can salvage something this aft before that long long road trip to who-knows-where begins…

Never mind poor CC, Dave. Poor you! You fell off the bridge into a creek? Yikes. Glad you’re OK. (Sorry about Va-Tech too.) Yes, the O’s have been rejuvenated with the Buckster at the helm. Same guys, different results. I liked the Dave Trembly O’s better. lol. Here’s to Ivan Nova saving us from being swept.

You’re ruining Nadal’s cool with that pic. I’m onboard. Her Royal Majesty, Princess Hanna of Helsinki calls him the “sexy Spaniard”—-a development with which I am not thrilled. He’s nowhere near as sexy as me. You don’t need to say it.

Her Royal Majesty and I don’t agree on Nadal, Paul. I was watching him play before and he just doesn’t do it for me, so she can have him. My idea of a sexy Spaniard is Carlos Moya, but I think he retired last year.

Maybe I should google a better pic of Nadal now that the prince mentioned it.
Joe sure looks too skinny there next to double C. He probably works out alot. Josh was mentioning that Joe Torre works out before he puts his uniform on. Well, better go to my Weight Watchers class here at work.

Jane,
With a National audience in place, with millions of Rays and Yankee faithful fans eager and willing to thrust their loyalties within their television screens, on Monday, the Cy Young will be decided by their two biggest drawing cards.
David “Money” Price against the odds-on favorite in Las Vegas, C C Sabathia.
Price come is wanting his 18th “W” and CC is still fuming for his 20th. Do not forget 2009 when CC came in with the same incentive and B J Upton produced a quick cycle on CC.
Should be a classic matchup of lefties with power, grace and a postseason honor at stake….Clash of the Titan 2010.

You go to Weight Watchers, Emma? It must be working because you looked very trim when I saw you in LA. Nice that they have classes where you work.

I can’t think about Monday, Renegade. I take it one day at a time, or else I’d go crazier than I already am. You’re right though – on paper it looks to be a great matchup.
