Please Help Us, Ivan Nova: An Open Letter

Dear Ivan,
I don’t know a whole lot about you, except that you tore it up in AAA and are supposed to be really good. So here’s the deal. You’ve been called up, and you need to make the most of it – for both our sakes. I’m not happy that the Yankees were forced to call you up – not happy you’re taking A-Rod’s spot because he’s on the DL, not happy Vazquez is such a disappointment, not happy that A.J. is so inconsistent, not happy that Huuuughes has an innings limit, not happy that without Andy our rotation is an thin as my pinky finger – but if you can help the team by pitching well on Monday (and maybe beyond) I’ll be forever in your debt.
Thank you.
Sincerely Love,
She-Fan

Desparate times call for desparate measures I see. Andy Andy Andy…it’s still all about him. Even I wish he hadn’t spent those yrs in Houston. All you can ask of a guy in Ivan’s position is just “Please! Don’t hurt us”. ~ Us meaning you of course…or them…or youz guyz.😮

> I blog here more than MLB…by at least 4 posts to one. Everything starts here and I just move stuff over.
Have fun tonight!

This is a big opportunity for Ivan Nova, I hope he does really well. And not only because I want the Yankees to win, but because it’s always cool when the young kids play a big part in games.
Wasn’t it nice to see Nunez get his first big league hit? I watched an interview of him that was on the YES website and he just couldn’t stop smiling! His answers were short and sweet, and he looked SO happy. I have a soft spot in my heart for rookies. I feel like everything they do is so much more special, because there’s usually less expected of them.

Omg, he looks 16…. Well hopefully he’ll do what never before seen pitchers do to us, and dazzle. Don’t forget great signings like Nick Johnson and Lance Berkman. Fun game today though😀

Looks like your letter paid off! Congratulations. Musta been the positive energy. He was right there in the mix.
Think you can write my Mets a letter? Every time I try it starts out ~ Dear John…and goes down hill from there.

Either A.J. or Javy need to get it together or we might be screwed in the playoffs. The only sure thing we got is CC. I know he’s a horse but I don’t think he can pitch on one day’s rest for a month!

I hope Nova does more than “not hurt us,” Mike. I’m expecting him to be the next Cy Young. LOL. The Yankees need him to pitch great. We’re in a tight race and we can’t afford to keep burning the bullpen thanks to short outings by AJ and Vazquez.

I loved watching Nunez yesterday, Sarah! He was adorable when he got that first hit and kissed the ball. He couldn’t stop grinning. Sounds like he and Pena will split duties at third with A-Rod out, so he’s got a big opportunity to prove himself at the ML level.

Aside from Vazquez’s wretched performance, it was definitely a fun game, seindsfeld. The offense kept pouring it on – my favorite thing to watch – and the pen was terrific. I didn’t even mind when Mo gave up that run. Kind of.

I’d be happy to write the Mets a letter for you, Mike. Just tell me the gist of what you want me to say and I’ll get right to work.

I’m just as worried as you are, Len. That’s why I’m putting all my hopes on Nova. If he turns out to be the next Aaron Small, we’ll be fine. If not, Cashman needs to look elsewhere for help.

Moments like Nunez getting that hit make it all worth while. He was so excited!

You may all thank my husband for that win. We usually have the weekend day games on the radio as we do stuff around the house and yard (we have outdoor speakers). He sat down for a few minutes to watch the game on TV and the Yankees got their four runs. Back to work and the radio, but he sat down in front of the TV again in the 8th and said “I’ll just sit here to get the Yankees two more runs” and it worked.

There was an interesting article about how more women are watching NFL games here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/shaneika-dabney/chicks-taking-charge-the_b_688830.html

MLB doesn’t really seem to notice that women are a big part of their fan base. Oh, that’s right, they offer pink hats now. Though the Yankees did honor several female fans during HOPE week.

Melissa

Please thank your husband on behalf of all Yankee fans, Melissa! Now we know the trick to winning games: turn off the radio and plant him in front of the TV. Thanks for the link to the HuffPo article. The whole “female sports fan” thing baffles me. We continue to be just as rabid and knowledgeable as our male counterparts and the media continues to treat us as if we don’t exist. I really hope my She-Fan script finds an actress and a studio and the movie gets made, so we can have a big budget comedy out there about a female fan. What a concept.

Jeez. You’d think they were the Pirates.

Not the Pirates, Paul, but a playoff contender with pitching problems.

Ivan does look like a kid. I love the smile! I love watching when rookies get their first start in the bigs. They have such enthusiasm.
Did you hear Jane that Vin is coming back next year!!!! Woohoo!!!!

Emma, I did hear the news about Vin. You must be so happy he’s coming back.

Hi Jane, haven’t talk to you in a while…

Last week I saw Nova pitch agganist the Detoit’s AAA team the Toledo Mud Hens, and he looked great!

He was perfect game through the first 5 innings. He had a real firm fastball that Mud Hens players couldn’t catch up too…

He really looks like a poised pitcher, who is ready for the bigs…

Hey, Brady. Thanks for the scouting report on Nova. I was impressed with him on Monday night and wished he hadn’t been pulled so early. But it’ll be interesting to see how he rebounds when he goes back to the hill on Sunday.
