Gearing Up for Yankees-Red Sox

How did I occupy myself on this off-day? I made a video. Only when I uploaded it to YouTube and then tried to embed it here, it didn’t work out. So I’ll leave you with this: the link.
It’s the best I can do. Sorry. But give it a look. It’s only a couple of minutes. And no, none of the things I put on the video will happen in real life. I promise.

Jeez Jane, that was pretty grim. It was like waking up and then watching footage of fatal car crashes. Combined with the fact that there was no hot water in my shower for some reason this is shaping up to be a great day.

You’re so funny!!! Yes, GO YANKEES! I work retail. I always love chatting with the fans who come in sporting their favorite team’s shirt, hat, etc. All the Red Sox fans were out and about yesterday. I commented to one that I think Dustin Pedroia plays with a lot of heart. The fan replied, “Who?!” Bandwagon fan! Another Red Sox fan told me that Beckett would fight the Yankees. My favorite was the Red Sox She-Fan that knew her baseball. She shared with me her Sox woes and I shared with her my Yankee woes and how I want Cliff Lee in pinstripes. The She-Fans always provide the best commentary😀 Have a great day fans!!! – Becky :0)

Normally I would be wound as tight as a spring today with the Sox/Yanks 4 gamer and my being in RI for 2 weeks to boot. Reality though, is not baseball for my family this weekend. A good friend of my sons father was killed in the massacure at a beer distributorship near Hartford CT on Wednesday. In case the news didn’t reach you fellow Yankee fans, a disgruntled employee went on a rampage and killed 8 innocient men before killing himself. My sons friends father was shot running to warn others of the raging shooter. He was a regular hard working guy who wouldn’t hurt a fly. This family has had more then their share of heartache over the past few years and now the rock of the family has been killed in cold blood. 7 other families are burying there husbands and fathers this weekend as well.
Baseball is fantasy, death is reality. I ask you all to pause a moment to remember these families in Connecticut. Prayers have no zip code and they are needed by these good people from anyone who cherishes life. Thank you.

I am so sorry to hear your son’s friends family was involved, ooaooa. I’d heard that story and I feel so sad for those families. What a senseless waste. My thoughts are with all of you.

Jane, did you really do that video or was it a guest appearance by Debbie Downer?

Just saw a slide show on The Huffington Post on “why the Obamas are not like the rest of us.” It said “the World Series Champions stop by to visit” and showed a photo of The Phillies! I mean, really, get with the program Arianna!

Melissa

Figured we could all use a little good news. This was on the LoHud blog:

Congratulations to CC Sabathia and his wife, Amber, who today welcomed their fourth child. According to the Yankees, the Sabathia’s newest son, Carter Charles Sabathia, was born at 5:44 p.m. He entered this world at 5-foot-10, 205 pounds.

Actually, if you want to believe the Yankees, little CC was considerably shorter than five feet and weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces. But give him time.

Nothin’ better than a baby to make us all smile.

pardon me whilst I jump off my roof…
head first…..

THAT WAS A TERRIBLE DOWNER!!!

I think we are good for the weekend…really…

I say we end up winning three of four.

I really think four of four is possible, but I would happy take three…

LETS GO YANKEEEEEES!!!!!!!

WENDY

So sorry to hear about this sad news, ooaooa. Yes, prayers have no zip codes. I will think of you all and the families of this terrible tragedy. May peace be with you! – Becky

At least you don’t have to worry about the Sox taking your playoff spot… this year anyway. Good song by the way.

Oh, wow. Hard to start out speechless, but I am…
First of all, profound sympathies to ooa and his extended family on behalf of those they know in the tragedy. Life does not make sense sometimes, and neither does death, but our thoughts and prayers are with you and them.
And as for you, Miz Jane…hats off again. I thought that I was The Grand Pessimist, but you got me beat. Reminds me of when I was a young’un and a rabid hockey fan of the Toronto Maple Laffs…so worried about big games against arch-rival Montreal…I’d think, let’s see…if they scored a goal every 5 seconds, how bad would we lose? 12 goals in a minute, 20 minutes per period, 3 periods…well, of course, no such thing happened, and we won our share of Cups.
But it’s something about face-offs with Arch-Rivals that does that to you, anytime anywhere. I’ve had my pet hates of NL teams over the years that beat Our Boys — Pirates, Dodgers, Cardinals, Reds…and those Arizona/ Florida upstarts…but nothin’ like The Hoseheads. Like you, I take absotively, posilutely NOTHING for granted. Game on, let’s go…

First, as many have said before me, my heart goes out to those who personally experienced that terrible tragedy in Connecticut – there are no words that will make it seem better but there are prayers going on all over the country that may help.

Jane, I don’t have speakers on the computer I’m on right now so I didn’t get to hear the music, but the words were enough. I’m hoping its just that you are too superstitious to say anything positive about this series — and thank you for not saying anything about Mariano – if you had I might have had to make certain you were sedated. LOL.

Melissa, another SNL fan!!! Debbie Downer – that was a great reference.

We’re going to miss the game tonight because we are going to our last free town concert. It’s The Grass Roots – so they may have saved the best for last. Actually, The Gatlin Brothers are performing tomorrow but I’m not into country music so the free concert season ends for me tonight.

Congrats to C C and the Mrs. – how many doctors did it take to delivery that baby. 😉

Looking forward to big things as our boys begin something like a 20 game run. I’m too superstitious to say anything more definite. GO YANKEES!!!

Sorry about your hot water, cheshirecat. I figured I’d get all the worst case scenarios out of the way last night so that tonight would be filled with GOOD outcomes. Of course it’s possible that Austin Kearns could get struck by lightning but what are the odds?

It’s always fun exchanging war stories with other fans, Becky. I wish you’d had the She-Fan Cam with you and recorded some of what the fans had to say. I really wish you’d had video of the Red Sox “fan” who didn’t know who Pedroia was. LOL.

John, when I first read about that rampage in CT I wondered if you might know any of the victims. Such a terrible tragedy and I’m so sorry for the family that lost their rock. All of us send our condolences.

It was a guest appearance by Debbie Downer, Melissa. She hijacked the blog and wouldn’t let me have a say in her video at all. So annoying. Funny about the HuffPo slideshow and the Phillies. Talk about living in the past! Congrats to CC and Amber. But another CC? Don’t they already have a “Lil’ CC?”

All right already with the Downer stuff. I was kidding, Wendy! Just having a little fun to prepare my superstitious and paranoid fan self for this series. Posada’s cyst will not grow into a melon! Jeez.

Jeff, you’re the only one who’s mentioned the song. Thank you. It’s a demo I made in HIGH SCHOOL. I figured it was the only way not to get taken off YouTube, since they don’t let you use anyone else’s music.

Sometimes it’s fun to be a pessimist instead of the cheerleader, Dave. You try to think of the worst things that could happen and then you can only be pleasantly surprised when they don’t happen, right?

Yes, Diane. I’m too superstitious to ever predict victory. As I said to Dave, there are times when it feels better to assume the worst and then be ecstatic when things actually go well! But again, the video was meant to be SATIRE!

I think you may have a future in directing. If you get the B&B gig, I’ll start watching again if they bring Deacon back.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

Speaking of B&B, Paul, you should be watching. Brooke, your favorite, had an “indiscretion” with her daughter Hope’s boyfriend, so it’s the Deacon storyline all over again.

Of course, John. Thanks for giving us all a wake up call about seizing the day and appreciating what we have.

Sweet! Didn’t know the song was an original… I was movin’ to it though. You just went up a couple notches in my respect category… as if it were even possible to go any higher. Nice work!
–Jeff

I’m so sorry to hear about that, ooaooa. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and everyone else who is suffering from this tragedy.
Jane, thanks for the laughs with your video. At least no matter what happens we’ll be able to look on the bright side and be thankful that all the things the video didn’t happen! I’m not looking foward to seeing Beckett though. I just can’t stand the guy. He better not throw at any of our players!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Loved it! Wish I could have attached a picture of your laughing lady. Hope we’ll still be laughing come Monday around 5 PM.
Serious note to ooaooa: So sad for everyone involved. You’re in our thoughts and prayers.
Jane

Aw, Jeff. That’s sweet. My friend Jackie and I were in ninth grade when we recorded a bunch of songs (I played the guitar, she played the drums). We were sure we’d become famous. LOL.

Sarah, you nailed the sentiment behind the video perfectly. We’ll be so relieved when none of those things actually happen! Well, I guess it’s possible that Jeter could hit into 16 double plays, but it’s more likely that he’ll pass Babe Ruth in hits!

Oh, the laughing lady! I should have posted her at the end of the entry, ladyjane. Next time. Meanwhile, here’s hoping for a successful four game series. I bet you’ll be at one or more of the games?

I look forward to a fantastic, intense series against the Yankees this weekend. Nice video there.
Worst case scenarios for the Red Sox?
Dustin Pedroia could break his foot.
Kevin Youkilis could hurt his thumb and require season ending thumb surgery.
Oh wait…
Gotta keep grinding through!
Elizabeth
http://redsoxgirl46.mlblogs.com

You guys have really had your share of injuries, Elizabeth. But the amazing thing is how they keep winning anyway. So I’ll continue to be nervous about this series!

Jane! You are amazingly talented! When I saw the credits at the end of the video, I wondered how you got away with saying “Music by she-fan.” I thought that was a song that had been on the radio.

So, I know you are close to my age – how did you record your song, on reel-to-reels? How did you get it digitized?

You know, the video was funny, but there was a time earlier in the season when you could have listed all that was going wrong and it would have sounded worse than that!

Melissa

HAHA, thanks, Melissa. What happened was that I was a Beatlemaniac in high school and wrote songs I hoped would sound like their early stuff. (The one on the video reminds me of “Love Me Do,” if you remember that.) My friend Jackie and I went to a demo place and they recorded the songs. Years later, when I realized all I had was a vinyl record, I had someone digitize the songs. Once they were on a disk, I uploaded them to my iTunes Library. And here we are!

the video made me laugh so much hahahahha! Such an imagination you have!😀 Let’s hope none of those come true!

http://mimi.mlblogs.com

I should be saving my imagination for work, Mimi, but sometimes I can’t help myself.

Sis Jane
It is only the second inning and already I’m tired. Haha. Your words haunt me: far from over!
Bro thomasox.

This game will take five hours, Thomas. It’s looking like one of our usual marathons. Sigh.
