Wang May Be Gone But Not Forgotten

It was reported today that CMW is going to the Nationals. Good for him and good for them. I was hoping the Yankees would take a chance and see if he could recapture his magic on the mound, but it wasn’t to be. And don’t get me started on Damon. If he ends up taking what the Yanks would have paid him – or less – I’ll be really mad. Anyhow, I wish Wang well (try saying that three times fast), and I would like to give him a proper sendoff. So I made a video of the two of us figure skating. Did you know he was Olympic caliber? If not, wait till you see his double lutz. As for me, I enjoyed being twirled around but kept worrying that my wig would fall off. At least Tanya Harding didn’t break my kneecaps.

Hmmm….His foot seems to have heeled well. Too bad he can’t run the bases as well as he skates. He’d still be wearing Pinstripes. Times are a’changin.

I still love the headline on a website today “Dodgers Pull out on Wang derby”.
Sounded almost like a show held down in Key West.
Seriously, since he has not hit the mound since his surgery, it might end up being a blessing that the Yankees passed on him.
I will miss him in pinstripes only becuase he had trouble against the Rays, but really do hope he can rebound and put the ball over the plate with consistency in 2010.
But I guess I see him more as a bobsledder or skeleton luge guy than a figure skater, but I do give his smile and grace under………well satin a hearty golf clap.

Yankees to the Nationals

man baseball is tough

I actually like him and it was really too bad what he went through last year. It was so painful. I hope he rebounds and does better with the…Nationals….. I’m trying to make this positive i am!

your videos are always so funny!

Jane, your skills never cease to amaze me. Skating too? Unfortunately, the vid won’t play when I click it. Anyway, I’m sure it’s great. As for Wang… I was sad not to see a Torre reunion. The Dodgers must not have any dough, eh? The Nats will be happy to have a groundball inducer on the mound. They need it.

I love the hair. Do you call that blondnette? 3 1/2 weeks till Tampa!!
Had to cancel our plans for Conn. Sports Foundation Dinner Friday night at Mohegan Sun. My wife”s cousin was killed instantly in the power plant explosion in CT last Sunday. We felt the blast 20 miles away. A real tragedy. Our family’s were very close. Wake is Friday night.
Found out yesterday Jeter and Posada will be there along with Zimmer, Yogi, Girardi, Cone, Longoria, Fisk, Leyland, Bill Maddon, 2 umpires and Andre Dawson. Oh well, like they say in Boston, “there’s always next year”.

Jane, you really can make the turtleneck work with any outfit! And I loved Wang’s visor look.
I really liked him and wish him all the best. That stupid foot injury screwed up a very promising career.

ooaooa, I am so sorry to hear about your wife’s cousin. My sympathies to the entire family.

Melissa

Jane….

You are definitely CRAZY but amazingly flexible with those moves ..hahaha. I will miss Wang too and I’m sorry the
Yankees didn’t take a chance with him after throwing out
so much money to other rehab projects in the past. I hope
he does well as long as it’s not against the Yankees (considering it’s the Nationals I doubt we will be seeing them any time soon in the near future..lol). Good luck Wanger !!!

Johnny D. is a sad case indeed. He could have been back with the Yankees but greed and a poor decision got in the way I guess. He should have done the old Bernie & Alex trick …told Boras to butt out and negotiated with the Yankees himself. This is a scary lineup without JD but with him it would have been lethal. I have learned one thing from the past tho’ (particularly the Alex opt out fiasco)…it isn’t final till signed on the dotted line so you never know …

Best of all ….7 more days till P’s & C’s …YAY !!!!!

Go Yankees 2010 !!!!

ooaooa …sorry about your loss ….

Isn’t it amazing how well his foot has healed, Mike? His agility on the ice makes me think he’ll do just fine with the Nats.

HAHA, Renegade. You Devil (Ray) you. I think Wang has a long way to go before anyone will know what he can offer. As you say, he didn’t get much of a chance to rehab the foot injury and now he hasn’t thrown in a long time. As much as I wanted the Yanks to give him a shot, I understand why they didn’t.

Mimi, you’re so right. Baseball can be a cruel business. Wang was a player the Yankees developed and you always want to see the home grown talent succeed – which he did. But that foot injury led to all kinds of problems. I hope he can make a comeback. He’ll certainly feel less pressure in D.C.

Sorry you couldn’t play the video, Jeff. Wang was an excellent skater! I thought he’d end up back with Torre, but either the Dodgers didn’t have the money or they didn’t think it was worth the risk.

OMG, John. The power plant explosion. I wondered if you were anywhere near it. I’m so sorry to hear about your wife’s cousin. My condolences to you and your family. Hopefully, the thought of spring training will give you a smile in the coming days. Sorry about missing the dinner too. (Still waiting for Ray to call to say he has my tix, btw.)

My turtleneck is so versatile it goes everywhere with me, Melissa. But Wang looks like he was born to skate, doesn’t he? So smooth on that lisfranc.

Johnny D is just a sad, sad story, Peggy. If the Tigers don’t offer him a better deal than the Braves did, he’ll kick himself for not taking the Yankees’ offer. I can understand why he wanted to test the market, but it should have become clear earlier on that teams weren’t going to pay the kind of money Boras was asking.

Why Jane, I never knew you were so talented! Love the layered-hair look! You and Wang sort of resemble skating bobble-heads though; must have made it hard to keep your balance.🙂
Sue
Rants, Raves, and Random Thoughts

I’m thinking of adopting the layered hair as my permanent look, Sue. It lets me be a blonde and a brunette simultaneously! As for keeping my balance, the truth is I tried skating when I was a kid and could never stay on my feet longer than six seconds. Oh, that ice was cold.

Baseball needs to start for you, Jane. Soon.

True enough, Paul, but I may not give up my skating. It’s great exercise.

I won’t miss Wang. He ravaged the Blue Jays. But you guys don’t need him, you still have Andy Pettitte to do that. I’ll always remember him pitching a complete game shutout at a game I went to in Detroit. The score was 1-0 Yankees! Boring game offsensively, but Wang’s sinker was unhittable that day.

http://homerfoodandhistory.mlblogs.com/

When Wang’s sinker was working, he could be devastating to hitters, Jeremy. That’s what makes last season so confounding. Either his injury threw off his mechanics and made him lose confidence, or the league figured him out and he needs a wider variety of pitches. I guess we’ll find out!

Hi Jane! I’m so glad baseball season is almost here. That video was funny! As far as CMW is concerned, the reports I’ve heard are all over the place…his signing with the Nationals is imminent…he hasn’t made up his mind yet…and virtually everything in between. If he does sign with the Nats, I wonder if he’ll wince when he is formally introduced to Ryan Zimmerman…….

Hi, Shelley! I guess I jumped the gun on Wang and the Nationals? I thought it was pretty much a done deal. Hmm. Well, I hope for both sides that they’ll work something out, because I’d love to see Wang get along shot. If he’s “right,” he could be sensational for your guys.
