Yankees=Best Medicine

With nothing much going on in Yankeeville and nothing but awful news going on everywhere else, I was in need of a pick-me-up. So imagine my excitement when I checked out the River Ave Blues blog tonight and found this. OMG. I’ve now seen the video six times and am about to take another look. It never gets old. In fact, it gets better with every viewing. Was the 2009 season magical or what? The only hard part is having to watch Melky, Matsui and Damon, knowing they won’t be back. Well, I’m still holding a good thought for Johnny.
P.S. Thank you, Yankees, for donating $500,000 to the Haitian relief effort. You make me proud.

Jane, Loved the clip! I too will dearly miss Matsui and Melky! (I am purposely not including Damon since we WILL get him back!). It was fun seeing the walk-offs and the ineptness of the LA Angels in the ALCS!
Kudos to the Yankees for their donation to Haiti. How sad! I cried today watching CNN.
On another note, Mark McGuire. I have been listening to the analysts and I am very, very tired of them throwing A-Rod and Andy(!) under the bus with McGuire. Just because McGuire TOTALLY messed up his “apology” doesn’t mean they have to dis our guys. They are OUR guys! Both came clean (well, Andy did a better job), but please, A-Rod never claimed he would hit ths same number of HRs even if he didn’t do whatever he did. Still hit 70 HRs – right! McGuire went from scrawny to 3 times his original size! I am actually feeling for the Cards – Spring training will be interesting for them.
I suspect that there will be a Derek/Minka wedding and that the excuse it is his sister’s wedding is a red herring. What do you think? Also, got your book “An Ex to Grind” in the mail yesterday and I am so looking forward to reading it!! Kathleen

I loved the clip too, Kathleen. Melky and Matsui were such a part of that magical season, so I felt a little sad too. I’m watching CNN right now and I can’t believe the devastation. How does Haiti recover? I don’t know. It’s one of the worst stories I’ve seen in a long time. I’m paying no attention to the McGwire chatter. I heard/watched him yesterday doing his mea culpa. That was enough. Maybe if some team actually makes a trade or signs somebody (hint hint: Johnny Damon), the media will forget about McGwire. So you think Jeter really is getting married? I’m not so sure. I can’t imagine he’d pick that date in November. I hope you enjoy “Ex!!!!!”

what an awesome clip! it definitely should be viewed at least a half dozen times! =) 2009 sure was a great year.. the continuing whipped cream pies says it all… but Opening Day will be here before you know it (81 days to be exact.. can’t wait!) and we could still use another outfielder.. i agree with you, Jane – i think we should bring Damon back! what is Cash waiting for?! can’t we just work something out already? are there any other viable options out there anyway?

I agree with you guys, the clip is truly awe-inspiring! Damon should return since he contributes a lot in the championship. Good thing that Yankees doesn’t have a coach like Jim Mora who is terminated by his team Seattle Seahawks since they believe that their head coach, general manager and president of the organization doesn’t do the good training and giving advices to win and defend his team. We all know that every January, NFL teams that haven’t made the playoffs or at least a .500 record or better let coaches go. Right? But well, I would also like to extend my deepest gratitude for the Yankees in donating $500,000 to the Haitian relief effort. You guys are really pride and honor to all of us!

What a way to start the morning! Thanks for posting that – I’d been looking for video like that. I got goosebumps several times and cried at the end with the “Core Fore” looking at the trophy.

And I’ve missed them so: Teixiera’s way of keeping his weight back as he hits, Matsui’s vigorous nods at first, the beauty of Cano’s swing, Alex’s quick nods, Andy’s glare from under the brim, AJ’s fire, CC’s coolness, Swisher’s sense of fun, Melky’s dimples, Damon’s hustle, Jorge’s awkward lope, Jeter’s regal bearing and most of all, Mo’s smile.

And that glimpse of Bernie in there was icing on the cake!

Melissa

Hi Jane,They did this thing on MLBNetwork yesterday about the Yanks ’09 season. I cried again. It was just too good.I miss my boys. Why can’t it be spring already??=],Ana

Great video making me tear up for about the hundredth time since they won the WS. All over again, I feel the incredible journey of this last season. We must all be manics, loving the highs and suffering through the the lows. I know other teams never win but it was many years of the season ending in a low. And Jane, the video showed you, though not the Jeter kiss!

I see that Spring Training tickets are going on sale. Are tickets hard to come by? I won’t know until March about whether or not I will be able to get away.

I hope you are tracking down “Once”. You may recall they won an Oscar for best song. If you love the movie, you gotta check out the award presentation. Last night I watched “Man on Wire”. Whew! Intense and a must for all New Yorkers or former New Yorkers. And anyone interested in the Twin Towers.

Laurie

Courtney, there are “viable” options out there to replace Damon, including Brett Gardner, but I was hoping we wouldn’t have to lose both Johnny and Hideki – two World Series heroes. Wasn’t it fun to relive 2009? If only lightning could strike again in 2010.

I don’t follow football, sindyl, so the hirings and firings of NFL coaches don’t mean much to me. Sorry!

I got goose bumps too, Melissa! I laughed at myself, because it kept happening no matter how many times I watched the video! I like your “review” of it, which couldn’t have been easy given how fast the action moved. What I noticed was how present A-Rod was. He may not have been the Series MVP but he was certainly a key to winning the championship, particularly after missing a month+ of the season.

Oooh, I missed the MLB Network show, Ana. Rats. I figured they were will talking about McGwire so I didn’t check in there. Keep the faith. It will be spring before we know it!

Yup, Laurie. I teared up too. My husband was laughing at me. He said, “You’ve seen this 1,000 times!” That’s just how it is. We are all maniacs. LOL about the Jeter kiss. You remembered that! Yes, spring training tix are going on sale but I got mine through a ticket broker recommended by John, one of our commenters on the blog. I’ll be there in mid-March for a game at Steinbrenner Field and for one in Clearwater against the Phillies. Hope to see you there! I haven’t had a chance to track down “Once” yet. Last night we watched “The Way We Were” on TCM and I cried for the 1,000th time for that too.

Wow…what a wide variety of commentary already today! On the down note, don’t know what more/where to add about Haiti…just glad/proud of the Yankee contribution, and for anyone else who can (praying that the $$ goes to the PEOPLE, not some Papa Doc/Baby Doc Duvalier clone). And as for the video — wonderful stuff — it’s true that we’ll miss the guys that are gone, but every single team is different…just nice to have a champion to savor for awhile. And of course, being me, I thought the music was okay – apropos, I guess…until they closed it out with appropriately classic rock: “More Than A Feeling,” which I loved, because it IS just that…and, okay, boys & girls…who did that song? Boston!!…can’t you just taste the delectable, delicious irony?!

The Red Cross looks like it’s doing a good job of getting food and supplies to the Haitian people this morning, Dave, but it’s hard to gauge from watching on TV. That song “More Than A Feeling” was the only negative for me in the video. I can’t stand it! And not because of the group’s name. It’s just…ugh.

Great clip! Every now and again I am going about my day and it hits me, “The Yanks are World Champions” and it instantly puts me in a good mood.

Very sad about Hati. I am proud that the Yankees contributed half a million dollars.

I try to give credit where it is due, and the Yankees have stepped up. It is great to see a sports team donate back, but also help the less fortunate that really need help. I commend the Yankee Org. I am sure that money will be appreciated and used to benefit the needy people.

I do the same thing, cheshirecat. Sometimes it’ll just hit me –
“The Yankees won!” – and I start smiling. I’m glad they contributed to the Haitian relief effort too. I hope the money goes where it needs to, as Dave said above: directly to the people.

Still in Switzerland BTW, where I’ve found that in the mountains they do stil yodel, but it’s apparently a dying art (insert YOUR comment here!!!)…a couple of other social observations: European bathtubs are so high I have to do the Fosbury Flop (a la a highjumper, getting a running start from the bedroom) to vault over the side to take a shower; next, EVERYTHING is small due to the population density – cars, apartments, etc. Supersize me, please!!! LOL. Finally, it dawned on me – no baseball here!!!! That settles it…I could never live here…!!! John

Thank you Jane. I haven’t seen the sun in two weeks because of the inversion-aka smog- in Utah, but that video made it seem sunny and bright. I loved seeing Jeter nodding his head to Empire State of Mind.
God bless the relief efforts and the people of Haiti!

I agree, 10indians. It’s good to see a team with such deep pockets give something back in a humanitarian way. Does my heart good!

Hello, John. Glad to hear all is well in Switzerland, even if you do have to perform Olympic feats to take a shower. LOL. I’ve never been there, only along the Italian border in the Lakes district, but it sounds picturesque. Just come back to us soon – safely. You couldn’t live there without baseball. No sir.

I didn’t know there was a smog problem in Utah, yankeeinutah. See what I learn from this blog? It can be so depressing not to see the sun for awhile, so I’m glad the video provide a ray or two. I loved that part when Jeter’s head was bobbing to the music! So cute!

Sue, does this mean I’ll see you in Clearwater on 3/17? I hope so! I’ll be sitting on the Yankees side but maybe you can protect me from hostile Phillies fans. :) At the very least, I hope you’ll let me interview you on the She-Fan Cam.

Hi Jane! As you can imagine, I refrained from watching your video. Nice to see the Yankees helping out in the Haitian relief effort, proving they’re not totally evil :-). On a completely different note, ordered my ST tix this morning – a rather trying experience! But I was successful in the end!

Jane, I think you and I might be twins separated at birth. I also hate “More than a feeling.”

John, I lived in England 1980-81 and all they showed of baseball back then was highlights of the world series. It was torturous, though I am also a soccer fan and THAT was great! And I am realizing that this summer will be hard on me, because my husband and I try and watch all the World Cup games. Those, plus baseball – guess I won’t be sleeping for a month or so!

Melissa

Weird how my comment shows up AFTER your response to it! Unless…you’re psychic! There will most likely be plenty of other Yankee fans there to protect you – since the Phillies and Yankees training camps are so close to each other, there’s always plenty of opposing fans at games between the two teams. And I would be honored to be on the She-Fan Cam! As long as I’m having a good hair day, of course. ;-)

Thanks for this video. I watch the J Z Empire state of mind and the collection of John Sterling playoff calls at least a few times a week. Sometimes I need a dose of Yankees, sometimes I need a smile, sometimes I need a stress relief, and those videos do the trick each time.
i also have enjoyed replays of various playoff games on the MLB network. I love the MLB network. 82 days, I think until opening day. I think i can make it. Just get through this cold month and then it’s spring training!
It’s great that you keep the blog through the off season. i don’t mind the off season after we win it all because i can see the Yankees winning it in my mind anytime i need it.
Barbara

Melissa, of course we were separated at birth! Didn’t you already know that? LOL. “More Than A Feeling” makes me cringe.

I don’t know why my single responses to comments often appear before the comment itself, Sue. Do you have that problem on your blog? It’s been going on for awhile. Anyhow, I’m excited we’ll be at the same game in March. Be ready for your close up!

I really needed a dose of Yankees yesterday, Barbara, so I was thrilled when that video turned up. Is it really 82 days until Opening Day? I can’t wait until spring training. I’ve got my flight and my tickets. I just need to make the hotel reservation and I’m all set.

OK, so a lot of bad memories in that video for me, but I’ll admit that it was pretty enjoyable, and highlight reels are great, no matter the team. There, I said it :)
Thanks for showing that.

Great job by the Yankees for winning a World Series, and helping out Haiti!

Sorry if the video gave you bad flashbacks, FBC! I know it’s magic for Yankee fans but fans of the Red Sox? Not so much. You’re right though; highlight reels of good times are such a shot of adrenaline.

The Yankees seem to have led the way on Haiti relief, Matthew. MLB has followed suit with a million dollars. Good job by all.
