What Kate Hudson Does When There’s No Baseball

It turns out we’re not the only ones who’ve gone back to real life now that the season has ended. Only in Kate Hudson’s case, it’s “reel life.” Opening Christmas Day is “Nine,” the movie musical based on the Tony Award-winning Broadway show. It was directed by Rob Marshall, who also directed “Chicago,” and it stars Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Judi Dench, Sophia Loren and, yes, Kate, who is said to be terrific in her singing and dancing number.

Today my Santa Barbara Film Festival Cinema Society group sent out invites to the December 12th screening, which will be followed by a Q&A with Marshall and possibly some cast members. Will Kate be coming here? And if so, is there any way on earth I won’t annoy everyone in the audience by asking her about A-Rod instead of the movie? She didn’t seem too pleased to be answering A-Rod questions in this MTV interview.
She was more relaxed fielding softballs from Mary Hart on ET.
I’ll probably have to drag my husband to see the movie (he hates musicals), but I’m looking forward to it. Here’s the trailer. I was amazed when I heard Kate singing. Minka Kelly, eat your heart out.
Will A-Rod be at the premiere, doing the red carpet thing? It could happen.

I can’t wait to see this movie (but then again I am a music teacher and was a voice major in college so musicals are my thing)! I watched the cast on Oprah the other day and the film really seems like it’s going to amazing. Fair warning though Jane…Kate wouldn’t answer even Oprah’s question about A-Rod. After much hemming and hawing all she would say is that they met years ago randomly and that she is very happy…

how often do we get to see Sophia Loren these days?! count me IN !

No Red Carpet but he was with her at the NY screening for the movie this week.

I watched her on Oprah and she also really, really didn’t want to talk about it. She did reveal that they had met a long time ago. It’s pretty obvious that she has made the decision not to talk about it. The Centaur question was out of line. I’ve been wondering where she was but haven’t seen anything about that. She was around at the very beginning of the playoffs. Anyone remember the last game she attended? I think it was Game 1 of the ALDS.

Jane, my husband hates musicals too. Hate is a mild word here.

very good point about hudson renegade. she may well be a bit sensitive about her career since -lets face it–as talented as she is, she hasn’t had the career that everyone predicted she might have. i for one wish her nothing but the best..if only for almost famous. one of my favorite movies…

Sophia Loren…Wow!
That woman has remained an Italian bombshell for so long.
She still looks so amazing and she is getting near what…. ( I never ask or guess a woman age)
Sounds like a great premiere, and you can understand the disappointment about the A Rod questions.
She is an actor by trade and not a trophy girlfriend and wants to be judged on her acting and dancing merits not the number of games she attended following the Yankees playoff run.
But you know she is that consumate professional, so in the back of your mind you know she is going to “wow” you during the premiere.

How would Kate react if they put her in the ring with Katie Couric and had to answer questions about what she reads, if anything?

How ’bout A-Rod, me, your husband and every other man in the world just conveniently get lost while it’s time to watch this movie? Haha. Hudson’s been good for A-Rod. Who knew.

I’m on the fence about musicals, wirishrose. I liked “Chicago” and “Dreamgirls,” but more often I’m not a fan of them. Maybe it’s because my parents took me to too many on Broadway when I was a kid and I only wanted to see the Beatles!

Sophia looks gorgeous from what I could tell, Mike. I don’t know if they used a filter or she just hasn’t aged. Looking forward to seeing her in this. The same with Kate, since the song and dance number is supposed to be her moment to shine.

He was there, yanksfan123? Well, there you go. Maybe he’ll fly out for the LA premiere. Or maybe he’ll skip it, the way she skipped the parade.

Laurie, I agree about the Centaur question. But she hasn’t made their relationship a secret. She came to all those games with her “Pa” and sat in the wives section at times and was on the field during family day and smooched with him. So she could conceivably say, “Yes, I’m seeing Alex.” I can’t stand when stars are coy about that stuff. LOL about your husband and musicals. Mine would rather stick needles in his eyes than see this movie.

Renegade, you and Mike are right about her career. This is her moment, not A-Rod’s, and she should have it. But one question? Just one? Come on, guys! I’m sure Marilyn Monroe answered one or two about Joe D!

HAHAHA, Jeff. Maybe you could start the Men Who Hate Musicals Club. My husband would be a charter member. I guess Kate has been good for A-Rod. But if her movie is a hit, she’ll get more offers and be gone more often, I don’t see them lasting too much longer.

What a cast! Sounds great.
My husband also hates musicals unless Monty Python has something to do with it. I LOVE musicals. I have to say I’m not any kind of Beatles fan though. There was a very sweet movie out a couple of years ago that I really enjoyed called “Across the Universe”. It was a musical about young people meeting in NYC and all the songs were from the Beatles, but song by the actors in the movie. I loved that one, so I guess I liked them as song writers, not performers.

I doubt very much that back in the day any reporters asked athletes or performers about who they were dating…that was probably personal back then. Now there is no private business or the famous. I know they are rich and can do what they please but it can’t be fun having no boundaries to protect them and their loved ones. Not a trade-off I’d take, even to become a millionaire.

If Kate Hudson was at Yankee games wearing a Yankee hat, does that mean A-Rod would wear fish net stockings to the premiere of 9? Just wondering….

I actually like musicals, believe it or not, so I probably will go see it when it comes out. I am headed to New York to see Rock of Ages in a couple of weeks.

Not a Beatles fan, Diane? That’s impossible! I had a huge crush on Paul McCartney back in the day (at the same time that I had a huge crush on Mickey Mantle – so two-faced of me). Maybe I’m jaded living here in CA surrounded by celebs, but when you date a high profile athlete, you’re bound to get questions. It’s the paparazzi that sicken me. They have absolutely no boundaries.

A man who likes musicals, Scott. Then we’ll able to discuss Nine when it comes out! I’d see it for that cast alone. Daniel Day-Lewis has never given a bad performance yet. Lucky you going to NY soon.
