Not What I Had In Mind

I didn’t get to see the Yanks lose to the White Sox in real time, thanks to my Thursday night writing workshop. But I came home and watched most of it after the fact. Let’s just say that if I were writing a script based on the 3-2 game, I’d probably call it “Reality Bites.”
What another waste of a good performance by Pettitte. No wonder he’s disgusted.
andy.wsox.jpg
It wasn’t bad enough that the Yankees offense spent the evening striking out with frightening frequency? Then he had to slip and make a throwing error?
Banana_Peel.jpg
And if that wasn’t bad enough, A-Rod blew a grounder that should have been an error and, with Hughes on in relief, Cano blew a routine double play ball that actually was an error. Nice work, boys!
Knuckleheads.gif
Still, when Swisher hit one out against his old team in the ninth to tie the score, I thought I’d be witnessing yet another Yankees comeback. But it was the White Sox that came back. The nerve. No, I didn’t expect Hughes to keep his scoreless streak alive forever, but….well, yes I did, because I’m a mental patient regarding the Yankees.
mental.patient.jpg
I suppose the game was never meant to go our way. I mean, a “preventative rain delay?” What is that anyway?
no-rain.jpg
OK, fine. It’s over. I have to let it go. This loss puts more pressure on us to win tomorrow night, but whatever. Time to lighten up. So here are a few more Yankee/celebrity lookalikes.
Andy Pettitte and Ray Romano? What do you think? (This one courtesy of Yankee fan and commenter adirondackgal.)
Pettitte.jpg
ray_romano_image__1_.jpg
And then we have Johnny Damon and Mickey Dolenz of the Monkees fame (courtesy of Yankeemeg).

And finally, what about Cody Ransom and the guy from “Two and a Half Men?” (No, not Charlie Sheen. The other one.)
Cody Ransom.jpg

OK, maybe they’re all a stretch, but I had to find some way to forget about this game tonight. I wish I hadn’t watched the tape and, instead, just stuck my head in the sand.

P.S. I’m having a lot of trouble posting comments on other sites today, so forgive the lack of reciprocal responses. Sitting here watching the “internal error” message pop up isn’t my idea of a productive use of time. I’m giving up.

*I don’t know why, but Pettitte’s always reminded me of Tony Danza…

Anyway – It was definently a sad day on the mound for Romano… 6 innings, 2 runs – the sting of a walkoff that wasn’t ours for a change. We’ll get ‘em tomarrow.

I don’t know why but the end of that game made me feeling sad for a long time. It took a while to shake the feeling. Whatsa matter with me! Gotta hit today. Sergio’s pitching.

Our teams are struggling a bit right now. With the latest news on David Ortiz, your photo comparisons are a welcome relief. My husband and I came up with a pretty good one the other night. I will have to post it later though. I am just too darn disappointed right now to do much else.

I always feel sad after a loss. And it is hard to shake that feeling.

I’m so glad I found this blog; its oddly comforting to know that others take each loss, especially one like last night’s, as hard as I do. Both starters did what they needed to do to win and the final decision did not affect either of them. There really was nothing positive to take from this loss for a Yankee fan and the fact that Boston won makes it that much harder to bear.

These pictures were very good — maybe not as spot on as the first ones but they took a bit more searching and are very creative.

Its pouring here in NY — not unusual for this summer so far — I think God is crying over last night’s loss too.

Johnny & Mickey could be twins! It is always the teams coming off of losing streaks that you have to watch out for. They are tough and desperate for a win.

HAHAHA! Even though they lost…I knew I could come here and feel better!! Wow, Pettitte and Ray. I never thought of that!!! Jon Cryer and Cody Ransom..brilliant! And you picked the best Mickey Dolenz picture ever!!! It’s a new game tonight…I think our Yanks will get it done. I think our friend Pete Abe thinks we may see a Shelley Dincan sighting. Hmmmm…we’ll see!
Megan http://yankeemeg.mlblogs.com/

It sucks we lost, but I’m happy Swisher made the homer! He rocks. Hopefully he has more of those under his sleeve for this series.

Jane – I only got to see the highlights…or lowlights in the case of all those errors. And Andy beating up the water cooler?? What’s up with that? He’s usually so stoic.

Ain’t life grand…one close loss on the road after a very decent series with Tampa, and we Bomber fans are gnawing at our fingertips…yes, Ms. Misery, it’s good to have all this company! Couldn’t see the game either, due to Old Mens’ softball, but again, just as well. It seems like every game when we DON’T get a five-star fab-o-lous play from Tex, our defense smells like spoiled fish, and down we go…? But thanx for those new Lookalike photos! Mickey Dolenz looks like a photo of Johnny as a youngsta — or is he auditioning for “Angels and Damons”…? Har har. Well, tomorrow night The Wife & I get our musical jollies — goin’ to FedEx Field to see McCartney…she LOOOVES Beatles, and we’ve never had the pleasure…keeps our minds off of head-butting over baseball, too!!

Jane: I think the steroid thing is sad for the game. I think I have the right to gloat a bit, though. Any Yankees that are on that list still are not important. Unless it is Jeter, Brosius, Tino, Mo, Bernie, O’Neill, it doesn’t matter. Our championships were won cleanly. The Red Sox’s were not. Ortiz and Manny were the heart of the titles. The curse lives! I think they should release all the names at once. Enough is enough already!
Your blog fills me with laughter every time, Jane, even after a tough loss! I thank you :) -from Virginia

We will be happy to pick up a 1/2 game on you guys any way we can get it. If it means we just don’t play anymore, then fine. It seems that is the ONLY way we can move up in the standings. Ugh. I’m very excited to see what teams like the Yanks and Sox (and the Rays and Cubs) are going to do today before 4 o’clock. Maybe nothing. Or maybe that blockbuster is coming.
http://raysfanboy.mlblogs.com

That’s funny, today Pettitte reminds ME of David Ortiz (tongue properly in cheek).

Poor Jon Cryer. Guess he’s gotta have a famous father, needs to have drug problems, needs to involved in some prostitute ring, marry/divorce some hot, young actress from the 90s, and get on a hit TV show in order to get some name recognition?

Haha

Dolenz almost looks more like Damon than Damon does.

Tony Danza? Interesting, JQuist. Especially in combo with Ray Romano. I guess Pettitte is part Italian. :) Anyhow, I felt awful for him because he’s working so hard to go deep into games and get a win, and it’s not happening lately. But we WILL get ‘em tomorrow.

Len, that feeling – and I know it all too well – is the consequence of winning and being in first place and getting used to going to bed happy! It’s a shock to our systems when we lose now. But we have to shake it off and remind ourselves that, despite all those strikeouts (14!), we almost won it.

I’m looking forward to seeing your lookalike pic, Jen. Never a bad time to have something brighten our day. I know you must be disappointed right now. Believe me, I know.

I think we all feel that way, Cat. And given how hard it is, it’s a miracle we keep coming back for more. But that just proves how much we love our teams.

Raining, Diane? Again? That makes the loss even gloomier. On the other hand, it never rains here in Santa Barbara and I’m gloomy about the loss just the same.

So true, Julia. The White Sox had been struggling. They were due for a win.

LOL, Russ. I can hear you singing it from here.

If Shelley’s with the team, who’s being sent down, Yankeemeg? I’d better get on Pete’s blog and check. Sometimes, it’s a killer being three hours behind you guys.

Latinyankeerebel, I think Swisher wants to prove to his old team and Ozzie that he’s still got it. So I bet he’ll have a good series.

Andy must be really frustrated, YRC. His last two outings were great until the seventh inning and then the bullpen lost it both times. I’d kick something too.

Have fun seeing Paul McCartney, Dave. Should be a good concert, and you and your wife won’t have to talk baseball!

Virginia, glad the blog brings you some cheer, especially after a loss. I agree that the names on the list should come out and that this long drip…drip…drip should be over once and for all. It would make so much more sense than the leaks.

Do you really think a blockbuster deal is still coming today, raysfanboy? If so, I don’t think it involves the Yankees, although I’ve been wrong many times before.

I don’t think Ortiz took the same stuff that Pettitte got from his local suppliers, Jeff. I think his came from a milkshake with a little yellow umbrella in it at some beach bar in the Dominican.

“Dolenz almost looks more than Damon than Damon does.” LOL, Greg!

I’ve gotta say, Jane, those lookalikes are a decent distraction from what went on last night! Floyd was too good. I feel bad for Andy… his July has been disappointing. I’m glad Swish got to contribute too, especially in Chicago. Hopefully Mitre will get the job done tonight.

P.S. sorry for sending like 30 comments just now. My internet was definitely spazzing out!

That’s some strange game with the White Sox and Yankees, no wonder Andy looked frustrated at Chicago. I think he’ll get his groove back in his next start. Yankees must wake up against the White Sox in the next game.

Jane: I hope last night is behind the Yanks now. Right now, they just need to win series, which is hard in this case cuz its 4 games and they have to win the next 3. But we’ve been on long winning streaks before, so 3 SHOULD be easy. I hope Shelley Duncan does well. He’s funny. Remember those high 5’s he does with his forearm? Ouch! He did very well in AAA, so maybe he got things together. I miss Gardner, though. I love speedy guys. -Virginia

Lisa, I’m with you on Mitre. Fingers crossed for tonight. He doesn’t inspire confidence in me, but I hope I’m wrong. And it’s not your internet. There’s some sort of technical problem here, which is not unusual.

Andy had to be frustrated, Matthew. He’s pitched so well with nothing to show for it. Aaargh.

Jane: I hope last night is behind the Yankees. They need to win series, and that will be tough since this one is 4 games. But the Yankees SHOULD be able to win 3 in a row, they’ve had longer streaks. I hope Shelley Duncan does well. I know he did well in AAA, but the majors is a lot different. Hopefully he straightened things out.

I miss Gardner too, Virginia. Nobody’s talked about him much since he’s gone, but I do miss his speed. Shelley will probably crush some arms doing his high-fives, but let’s hope he gives us a reason to celebrate. He did well in AAA, so maybe he’ll contribute.

OMG, Johnny Damon DOES look like a Monkee! Very frightening. And I never realized that’s what Cody Ransom actually looks like – also a little frightening.

Rants, Raves, and Random Thoughts

Didn’t mean to frighten you, Sue! LOL. But you never know what’ll turn up here, right?

As unlaughable as last night game was, I couldn’t help but chuckle after Andy beat up the cooler then picked everything up and put everything back after. How polite!
Damon and Dolenz…wow that is good!

Andy is nothing if not a gentleman, adirondackgal. Congrats on your matchup with Ray Romano!

Thanks Jane. Its not spot on but I think its the nose! LOL.

Nobody as good as me in that workshop, I bet.

I’d have to give you an F, Paul. It’s “nobody as good as I.” Tsk tsk.

funny look alikes there. on the WVU football message boards they do the same thing before a game and use the opponenets roster as a target. its very funny and sometimes gets out of hand.

http://pittpeas.mlblogs.com

I love look-alikes, mattpeas. They make me laugh!

An “F” is something for which I will not sit.

Ah, now you get an “A.” Beautiful sentence structure!

Really cool workshop. The new thing with finding celebrities baseball players look like is pretty cool. Run with it.
http://moneyball.mlblogs.com/

I’m having a lot of fun with the workshop, moneyball. The people in the class are a good group. Glad you like the look-alikes!
