I Love Using The Word “Crush”

No, I’m not talking about this kind.

Or this kind.

Or even this kind.

I’m talking about the kind that fits nicely into the following headline:
“Yankees Crush Twins 10-2.”

Yes, it was a decisive victory for the Yanks in their opener at the Metrodome, but it would have been a downright blowout if Carlos Gomez had not made a terrific catch of A-Rod’s would-be grand slam in the third.

This was no ordinary web gem; the guy timed his jump perfectly, leapt and caught the ball like a comic book hero.

Gomez wasn’t finished, either. In the sixth, he made a great grab of Matsui’s fly ball. He was not so lucky on Gardner’s gapper, which turned into a triple and put the Yanks up 9-1. There’s just no stopping Brett the Jet.

But before I spend another nanosecond on the offense, I must pay tribute to CC, who threw a sparkling seven innings, giving up a paltry one run and three hits.

Is the big man getting even bigger, by the way? He looks like he’s been sprinkled with this.

Bombko pitched the final two innings, allowing a run in the eighth. I don’t know what to say about him. I guess he serves a purpose in the bullpen. I just haven’t figured out what it is, except that he eats innings (or whatever else there is to eat).

Back to the scoring. There was a lot of it, obviously, starting right in the first inning when the Yankees kept blooping cheapo singles at the Twins. One of them included Brett the Jet’s infield hit off Baker’s buttocks. Ouch. Talk about a pinball wizard.

I think everybody in the lineup had at least one hit. Tex, who continues his homer-less stretch, had four, and Cervelli, who’s about to be replaced on the roster by Molina (sob), had a couple. The biggest surprise was Cano, whose inability to function like a Major Leaguer with men on base, has been well documented. He came up with bases loaded in the sixth and managed one of those bloop singles I mentioned earlier. He looked thrilled.

Whatever it takes, Robbie. The important thing is that the Yanks notched their 11th win in 13 games. Now it’s on to tomorrow night with AJ on the mound. Keep the train moving, boys. Or, in the case of the video below, the ship’s cabin.

Of course it is more important thing is that the Yanks notched their 11th win in 13 games. Hope to see more winning styles. Guys! If a game goes wrong don’t be pessimistic. Remember the word “sportsmanship.” Anyway, in relation to sports event, People are interested in seeing a Steve McNair’s wife photo. A Steve McNair’s wife photo is of more interest after the slain NFL player was reported as having an affair with a 20-year-old woman, Saleh Kazemi. Rumors are starting to fly of a Steve McNair and Sahel Kazemi affair and murder suicide. Many would put a payday loan towards figuring it out. McNair was drafted into the NFL in 1995, retiring in 2007, and was a regular feature in the playoffs for both the Tennessee Titans and then the Baltimore Ravens. Many would give a cash advance for a Steve McNair’s wife photo, and the culprit behind his tragic end.

I was glad to see CC turn in such a fine performance. Hopefully, the Yanks will continue to play well in their final Metrodome series. I really hate to see Cervelli go, but I do recognize that he still needs some work in the minor leagues before he’s completely major league ready so hopefully he’ll make the most of his trip to Scranton/Wilkes Barre.

Great win by the Yankees last night. The Steve McNair killing is just a terrible waste.

A comfortable win – how rare! Did you have to listen to Minn. announcers like I did? They continued the whining about “backing up truckloads of money” to CC and Tex’s homes in the off-season. Ugh. So sick of that. Also: A Night at the Opera, one of my faves! Great movie.

I agree about Cervelli. I loved having him with the club. He provided a spark and handled his catching duties well. Even his bat came alive. But Molina is beloved by pitchers and can smack a double every now and then, so we’ll be fine!

It was a very relaxing win, Julia. No stress for a change.

Yes, I did get stuck with the Minny announcers and I laughed every time they made that “truckload of money” comment. Don’t you find that with all the out-of-market games, YRC? That they can’t stop talking about the payroll? They even did it in Texas, where Tom Hicks was Mr. Moneybags for A-Rod! as for the Marx Brothers’ movie, I’ll use any excuse for getting them into a post!

Just think, if Carlos Gomez didn’t rob that homer by A-Rod we would have had four more runs on the board.

Nice win and a nice post there. CC is my fantasy team ace, so I guess I have to give him a hand on that terrific performance.
Gomez did star out there in the outfield though, could have been an even bigger win!

Without Gomez’s grab, it would have been a real blowout, Dillon.

Glad you have CC on your fantasy team, FBC. He’d be my pick.

I think I may be a little nontraditional in the way that I would rather see my favorite teams completely obliterate the other team rather than win on a last second play or walk off home run. A 5-4 win with a walk off is nice but personally I wanna see a good ole 15-2 *** whoopin.

CC also kept both mauer and morneau hitless, and yes Gomez is most definitely a superhero. I kept a close eye on him for the rest of the game to make sure he didn’t rip of his jersey and put on his superman outfit.

Yes, I do find that all of the small market teams announcers whine about payroll. I just wonder if they know how bitter they sound. It’s a pretty simple human nature calculation: if your services were needed by two companies, and one of those companies offered you more money, which would you choose? And the thing that kills me is that they all take some percentage of Yankee/Red Sox/Dodger/Cubs money through revenue sharing!

Moneyball, you probably missed my post from several weeks ago when I said that I, too, would rather have a 20-0 blowout. It’s the opposite of a tense game – pure fun.

Good point, Inside the Thought Bubble. Keeping Mauer and Morneau from doing damage was a big reason why CC was so successful last night. I’ll definitely be watching out for Gomez tonight on all fly balls.

That’s the joke of it, YRC. The small-market teams whine, but they benefit through revenue sharing and in the attendance numbers, which go way up when the Yankees come to town. Luckily, tonight’s game will be on YES for us out-of-towners.

There is nothing better than a crush game. Pitching duels are good to watch as long as my team comes out on the winning end, but if not, I hate it.
CC has a muffin top. I even got rid of my muffin top–please somebody get him some kettle bells or something.

My thoughts exactly, Kylie. Crush games are the best. I wish the Yankees were having one right now instead of the one-run game they’re in right now.

Crush? How about the Phillies 22-1 win over the Reds? That game was wild, the definition of crush in baseball haha. And that vegetarians sign was hilarious haha, awesome post.
http://payoffpitch.mlblogs.com/ I just posted a very cool video along with some pics on why Victorino deserves to be an all-star.

That was an actual blowout, phi8008 – a big time crush. Will stop by and check out your video and pics.

I know that blowouts can be relaxing, but I have had a ball watching the Rays knock out back-to-back walkoff wins. There is something to be said for pulling your hair out while sitting on the edge of your seat gripping the remote to the point of breaking it.

Ok, that doesn’t sound fun at all, does it?

Congrats on the win!

Congrats on YOUR win, raysfanboy! Your guys really took it to the Jays with that walkoff. And Upton’s stealing home must have been exciting to watch.
