While The Yankees Anticipated Today’s Rainout…

…A-Rod began the second week of his workout program at the Yankees’ minor league complex in Tampa.

According to the YES web site, he made precisely 19 throws to first base and nine throws to second base after fielding grounders. Offensively, he has hit 10 homers in 75 swings. He offered this nugget to reporters: “It feels good.”
I’d feel good too if I’d had my hip sewn back together.
But the question is….What else did A-Rod do in Tampa today? Inquiring minds want to know, and She-Fan has the exclusive.
* He chewed 89 of these.
* He drank 5 of these (with a straw – the kind that bends at the top).
* He went to the beach and took a nap in one of these.
 * He went back to his hotel and watched the whole hour of this.
* He got up from his chair and started dancing when Ellen did this. (He reported zero pain in his hip!)
* He felt good enough to do this.
* And finally, he felt loosey-goosey enough to attempt this.
I asked A-Rod how he hurt his hip in the first place. He said, “I’ve got one word for you, She-Fan: Pivot.”
Pivot? Was that like some secret baseball code word? Or maybe a profound message, like “Rosebud” in the movie “Citizen Kane?”
And then I got it. All three players who’ve had torn hip labrum recently have been third basemen: Mike Lowell, A-Rod and Alex Gordon. Was there a connection? Does the injury have to do with the way third basemen twist their bodies on every throw to first? And was there any way to prevent the problem?
I tried to get A-Rod to respond to my musings, but he was too busy doing this.
P.S. If you’d like to enter the contest to win a Flip Video Camcorder (details here), leave a comment. The Favorite Fan Photos that have come in so far are pretty cool!

And what about his nighttime proclivities? Namely chasing who-ers. That’ll be a true test of the fitness of his hip.

So the straw had the bendy top? Tell me, did he remove the paper from the straw, or is is straight out of the bag without a wrapper? Gotta watch out for those nasty paper cuts. Maybe that can be added to Yuri’s to-do list.Russhttp://wight4256.mlblogs.com

Russ – too funny! Third base seems to be a position that takes quite the toll on the body. I’ll have to say though – the surgery that Mike Lowell had seems to be working! He looks great out there.

Jane, I’m in and I have the perfect picture.

A-Rod looks funny in that picture, doing jazz hands! LOL
I’m countign the days he’s back, we need him.

Are you sure that’s all he was doing? Tampa is world-famous for its strip clubs, you know😉
Rants, Raves, and Random Thoughts

I have to agree with Sue.

i think at night he’s working the pole to get some extra cash, you know, because the economy is bad, and the same time making sure his hip is not bothering him much when he’s moving… LOL

Perhaps ya’ll could get “Rubber Boy” to be your long man in the bullpen. Lord knows you could use it. Might help Girardi keep his job a bit longer too. LOL.

What…no more muscle-kissing?? Well, maybe A-Rod’s not FULLY recovered yet, but ASAP would be a nice time for it… what IS Zico Coconut Water? Does it keep you regular? Regularly doing WHAT? Oh nevermind…let’s hope the extra day off did the hurlers some good, and more time to figure out how to keep the horsehide out of the RF Jet Stream…I’ll just bet you’re getting some GREAT pix for the contest — can’t wait to see The Best Of, and maybe Son #2 and I can concoct something featuring our Sports Souvenir Room (Yankee Section) that will add to the mix b4 deadline…!

Haha, well it looks like A-Rod is recovering very nicely! Good to see him so active! Wow, exactly 89, huh?

I noticed that Ellen changed her clothes before she danced! Such a prima donna that one!!

dschaub: http://www.zico.com/. Zico Coconut water is actually very refreshing and is good for you.

latinyankeerebel: LOL. A-Rod working the poles for some extra cash. Times are tough for everybody!

I hope A-Rod comes back fast cause he’s on my fantasy team. lol

Paul, you notice I left out all references to his nighttime activities. This is because he said, “I’m concentrating on baseball 100%.” As always, I believe every word that comes out of his mouth.

Yep, Russ. He removed the paper from the straw – each time he took a drink of the coconut water. The Yankees recorded it in their A-Rod Rehab log.

Good news for your guys that Lowell has recovered well from the surgery, Julia. I hope it bodes well for A-Rod, even though he only had the “hybrid” surgery.

Got your pic, Cat, and it’s great!

We do need him, Latinyankeerebel. Can’t wait for him to launch bombs into those right field seats.

Sue, see above comment to Paul. No strip clubs anymore. A-Rod must behave or else! That means no pole dancing either, Cheshirecat!

We could use Rubber Boy, Jeff. But at this point I’d settle for Bombko.

Dave, Zico Coconut Water is actually really good stuff. I drink it every night if the weather’s hot. It’s got lots of potassium and electrolytes – Gatorade without the crap. And yes, you need to get that pic going with son #2.

Exactly 89, Kaybee. The Yankees counted.

So many wardrobe changes for Ellen, Ken. Just couldn’t find a pic of her dancing and sitting in the same clothes.

I hope he comes back fast for both our sakes, King.

A-Rod doing jazz hands? And watching Ellen? Uh-oh, we don’t need to start those rumors again! -Erinhttp://plunking-gomez.mlblogs.com

Well, I guess I could have had him watching Oprah, Erin. I just figured he’d get into the dancing. At least I didn’t make him watch The View!

I was actually supposed to attend yesterday’s rainout, and was very very unhappy that it was taken away from me. However, I am also going on Wed. and will now see C.C. instead of Joba…so I can forgive the baseball gods for now haha.

Great to see A-Rod making some solid progress, hitting 10 home runs in 75 swings yesterday. I actually just wrote an interesting A-Rod article on my own blog, and took Dr. Seuss and the Grinch into account while writing it, haha. You should check it out.

hahaha A-Fraud dancing with Ellen. hahaha
I’m glad A-Fraud is enjoying his rehab. Sounds very relaxing.
Sorry if the A-Frauds offend you, I can refer to him in no other way. Sorry.

Sorry you got rained out yesterday, Stephen, but at least you’re going on Wednesday. I hope you bring the Yanks luck! I’ll hop over to your blog and see what you wrote about A-Rod.

You can call A-Rod whatever you like, Melissa.

More likely is this: Spent 7 hours shopping for a RolexDropped a Benjamin on the server at FuddruckersBoasted all morning that I could hit Swishers’ heaterAsked Boras to renegotiate my contract.Ok, that’s obviously a lie. We all know A-Rod doesn’t go to Fudds.Ashhttp://ashleymarshall.mlblogs.com

I remember Chase Utley saying that he thought he was ready after his hip surgery to find out once he did “baseball related” activities, he was far from ready this off season.
But with A Rod at least throwing on the field, he might just be almost two weeks away. But the situation where he is scrambling for balls and even diving have not begun yet. When he first hits that hip on the clay, he will know just how far along he really is this time.
I do not wish him misfortune, but caution. He is a huge cog missing from the Yankees hit machine. And if he goes down again this year, it might not be doom and gloom, but it will be a huge question mark on the rest of the year.

Rays Renegade

I don’t see A-Rod at Fudds either, Ash. He likes to dine fine.

What I worry about, Renegade, is running the bases and especially sliding. He’s always run well and been a threat to steal, but he’d have to be careful with that.

Jane, I’m not in favor of disparaging names for our players either. I defend every one of my Dodgers no matter what. You should hear some of the names they are still calling Manny, especially the Red Sox fans, not you Julia, of course, gf. I consider the Dodgers my unoofficial family.

I agree, Cat. The players are very much like family to me. I can say what I want about them, but when someone else disparages them, I jump to their defense. Can’t help it.

Does A-Rod do yoga? I tried to do a headstand for a year, but I have given up. In fact, I’ve hardly been going to yoga😦. By the way, I am interested in participating, and I think I have your e-mail from before. I have got to look through my pics now haha. Maybe I should go visit A-Rod…

Elizabeth, I used to do yoga every week and it was really relaxing (never stood on my head though). Yes, you should absolutely go visit A-Rod and take his pic. Actually, you must have lots of good ones from all those spring training games you went to. I’ll look forward to whichever one you choose!

Jane, my caption for that picture of A-Rod would be “I love myself THIS MUCH.”🙂

LOL, Shelley. Perfect caption.
