Preparing Teixeira For Game 2 Vs. The O’s

I’m assuming that after Mark Teixeira struggled at the plate on Monday, he watched video of his performance with hitting instructor Kevin Long and searched for any possible mechanical malfunctions in his swing.

But maybe there was more to the story. My theory is that Jeter and Girardi put their heads together during the game to try and figure out what was bothering their new first baseman.
nyy_balt.jpg
“I think it’s opening day butterflies,” said Girardi.
“I think it’s all those fans booing him,” said Jeter.
“What should we do about it?” asked the manager.
Jeter smiled knowingly, motioned for the clubhouse attendant and disappeared into the dugout.
After the game, Derek took Tex aside and sat him down in the players’ lounge.
“Have a look at this and you won’t be intimidated by the fans here,” said Jeet. “Seriously. They can’t even sing.”
Speaking of fans, the Blue Jays announced that they have banned alcohol at the Rogers Centre for three games after drunken and disorderly spectators threw various items onto the field during Monday’s opener against the Tigers.
It turns out the Rogers Centre has had its share of disorderly conduct, including this little episode last year.
Isn’t there enough happening during a game to entertain people? I’ve never understood the appeal of streaking or batting around a beach ball or even doing the wave. Am I missing something?

There is plenty to watch at the game without all those distractions. I got booed once for punching a beachball with a pencil. Emma crzblue sent by blackberry

LOL about the blue jay vid.. haha..
Despite it taking a stab at Teix, the Boo Teixeira song has a nice ring to it, lol.. My favorite line however: “But now Yankee fans think they can take us…” Pfffffff, we could ALWAYS take them, lol. I hope Teix hits a grand slam tonight.

Oh my I was going to comment until I read Emma stabbed a beach ball. Now I am just sad and going to leave the computer from such a sad image. Poor defensless beach ball…never had a chance.

Sorry – but I like the wave and beach balls! There is fun on the field but it’s okay for the fans to have some fun also! Great video!

It doesn’t bother me, but I guess I am just “old-school”, or boring, but I am perfectly content just sitting and watching the game.Russhttp://wight4256.mlblogs.com

Don’t worry, Jane. That trip to Toronto was a memorable one, not just for my streaking, but because I ate at the same restaurant you and the Yankees eat at while in Toronto.

Mark Texieria said it well when he said if you are a Yankee, you will get booed on the road. He is traditionally a slow starter.
A few “bad singers” as Jeter put it in your story should not affect how a Yankee does, no matter whom they are. It is going to be about making adjustments and realizing every true team fan except the Yankees’ fan, hates the Yankees. The reason is that every team cannot afford to keep the Sabathias and Texierias on their teams and they always end up on the Yankees. Since these players end up there, they get booed. It is the least we 29 other teams can do. Remember Texieria should and could have easily signed with hometown Baltimore and didn’t. This is a slap in the face to the hometown fans.

for some odd reason I’m unable to view the videos, they do not upload to the page.. I think I’ll restart the computer at somepoint during the day… LOL…
regardign the waves, I dont remember were (maybe I’m still traumatized) we did 20 waves non-stop, I dont remember if it was an O’s game or a Nats game I went…. hmm.. I have nothing against waves and things like that.. it’s fun when you’re in a big group.

If he’s fanatically studying video after one game then he’s gonna be a basket case by the time he gets back to NY if he doesn’t start hitting immediately.

Imagining Derek and Joe with their heads up against each other, praying for Mark Teixeira makes me laugh. Maybe they could also help Xavier with his baserunning.

The wave I don’t mind so much. But I hate beach balls. You can’t always control those things, and they end up in the playing field. Then the umpires have to call time and blah blah blah. It’s so irritating. Although I usually don’t engage in a wave unless I’m beyond plastered because at that point, I can barely pay attention to the game. That’s happened once, for the record. πŸ™‚

That comment was so nice, I posted it twice.

Its so stupid that they hate him for signing for more money, I would bet all the money I own that they would have taken the Yankees offer if they were half of what Texeira is, and yeah, I am defending a Yankee.

Jane, I can’t stand the wave and refuse to participate in it. To me, the wave is a football thing – it works best in stadiums that are continuous ovals (like football stadiums). Most baseball stadiums have gaps in the seating, especially in the outfield, so it doesn’t work as well, always gets out of sync, and ends up looking stupid.
Oh, and I actually sort of enjoyed the Texiera song – it was catchy – but could have done without seeing the drummer stick drumsticks in his nostrils. Ick!

Rants, Raves, and Random Thoughts

I’ve been to the Skydome (Rogers Centre) and can attest to the fact that they hand out cards to people in the first row reminding them of how to act. When I was there it was signed by Cito Gaston in his first go-around. But based on my experience there, the fans are lifeless and have no idea about baseball. I guess these rowdy fans must have been bussed in from the USA or something.

Also, Happy Passover!!!

OMG, Janie girl, where DO you get these things?!? I have been laughing my posterior off at the both of ’em…and as soon as I can, I’m hauling in the Office Philly Fan and the Oldest Office Oriole Fan for a viewing. This is TOO good!

And, as usual, you remind me of something…Mike Ferraro told me this Yogi story back in ’91…it was a summer game in the mid-70s, when Yogi was managing the Mets (well, whenever that was)…he came home that nite and told the wife, “Carmine, ya won’t believe what happened at da ball game today. In da 7th inning, two kids jumped outa da bleachers and dey ran NAKED across the outfield!”
So Carmine naturally asked, “Well, were they boys or were they girls?”
To which Yogi replied, “How the hell do I know? They had BAGS over their heads!!”

Punching a beach ball with a pencil, Emma? I’m surprised you weren’t forced out of the ball park. People take their beach balls very seriously.

A grand slam would hit the spot, V, but I’ll settle for an RBI single – or three. And yeah, the song is kind of catchy. I caught myself humming it!

I bet that beach ball regenerated, Tom, and is now sailing across ballparks everywhere.

Each to her own, Julia. Whatever brings enjoyment – as long as it doesn’t result in an ejection!

I hear you, Russ. Old school.

Now that I’ve watched the video again, I see that the guy was you, Jeff. There was something in your giddy prance across the field.

I’m aware that Yankees get booed on the road, Aaron. But I don’t get the “slap in the face” explanation at all. How many players sign with their hometown teams?

Sorry you couldn’t view the video, Latinyankeerebel. It was a couple of streakers running onto the field at the Rogers Centre.

I made up the part about Tex studying video, Paul. We writers have vivid imaginations, right? For all I know, he was kicking back with a comic book after the game.

Ellie, I was thinking the same thing about Xavier’s base running. I love the guy, but he’s sloooow.

I’m not a fan of the beach balls, Jen, because they take my attention away from the game. Who wants a ball in their face? I guess I just don’t include it as part of the “fan experience.” Being plastered changes all that, of course.πŸ™‚

Gomets, you put it very well, Yankee or no Yankee.

Yeah, the nostrils part wasn’t fun, Sue. But as I wrote above, I thought the tune was catchy, even though they were singing it off key.

Happy Passover to you and your family, Ken.

Dave, is that the perfect Yogi-ism or what? Loved the anecdote.

Well put. Hey, look at all the stars you have on the Yankees – It will be sad if the Yankees DON’T win the World Series. Just compare their lineup, $$$, and talent to the lowly Reds, and you’ll understand my frustration. Best to you and the Yanks – Happy Easter…

http://americansoldier.mlblogs.com/

It will be sad, I agree, Americansoldier. But money doesn’t guarantee a championship. Every Yankee fan knows that. We just appreciate that our owners have deep pockets (for now). Best to you and the Reds. And Happy Easter.

Well,
They say that Canadian beer is stronger than the US version.
Maybe they should sell only US made beer for three games and then they can slowly pull the beer drinkers drunken behavior to a subtle “beer buzz” mentality.
Oh, and poor Zack Hample is in Rogers Centre this week. I know he is staying that the stadium hotel, maybe he can get his beer through room service and have it lowered down to him during the game………..Big Tip Big Tip.
I always thought Bob and Doug McKensie were fake characters…….maybe not eh?

Rays Renegade

http://raysrenegade.mlblogs.com

Wow, and I thought the blog titled ‘Drunk Jays Fans’ just being facetious! Although, I guess if your team sucks you kind of need things like booze and streakers to distract you from the action on the field.-Erinhttp://plunking-gomez.mlblogs.com

Do they say Canadian beer is stronger than the US version, Renegade? I’ve never heard that, but since I don’t drink beer I’m hardly an authority. Poor Zack is right. Room service sounds like the best option.

I think that anytime a team has a $4 beer promotion, Erin, they’re basically admitting their team is bad and saying, “Just please show up.”

Jane,
I’m sure Jeter and Girardi’s pep-talk will help Tex. Someone needs to give one to Ellsbury, he went 0-4 too! Smart for the folks at Rogers Centre to ban alcohol for three games… that kind of conduct cannot be tolerated at baseball games. The game is so simple, we don’t need to complicate it anymore.

Good luck with Tex. At least when he doesn’t hit in the post-season it’ll take some heat off of A-Rod. I have a feeling that when the Yankees make it back to the Big A he’ll get booed here too. Guess I’ve got until July 10th to write a catchy song!
Lori

I agree about the Rogers Centre, Elizabeth, although I wonder why they settled on three games instead of, like, five!

Better get the rally monkey ready, Lori.

No update on comment server issues. MLB.TV by far our priority on I.T. side this week, making sure it’s running perfectly for paying customers. Hopefully improvement this week but wouldn’t count on it…all parties aware of it but it’s in a queue well behind ongoing MLB.TV attention. – Mark http://mlblogs.mlblogs.com

Haha, that’s a great song! Um…I mean, well sung! haha. I hate the beach balls, but I love those people who work for the Padres (PadSquad members) who come and try to rally the fans. Pretty cool…but I aslo like just concentrating on the gameπŸ™‚
http://kaybee.mlblogs.com

It’s too bad about the Rogers Centre….having been there for the World Baseball Classic, it was an awesome atmosphere and there was no alcohol-related problems at all…..so hopefully the fans don’t get a bad rep there….

I hope I can do as good of a job with my blog when I’m on my 60 day, 30 stadium tour…

I wanted to throw an idea out at you, but I didn’t see your e-mail address anywhere, so if you could check out my blog and help me out…that would be great!

Hope to talk to you soon….Thanks!

Thanks for checking in, Mark. We’ll muddle through, although I’m about to throw my computer out the window!

The Padres have a PadSquad? Sounds like fun, Kaybee.

I just tried to leave a comment on your blog, Phil, but I don’t think it went through. Will try again!

Oh, he’s ready, Jane. And I hear he’s been working out. πŸ˜‰

LOL, Lori. I remember him on a surf board the last time I was in Anaheim, with the theme from “Jaws” in the background.
