MLB Network – Only Three Hours Away

three.oclock.gif
At 3 o’clock Pacific Time I won’t be taking a walk on the beach…won’t be on the phone wishing my friends a happy new year….won’t even be cooking a new year’s day meal. I will be tuning in to the debut of what I’m calling “The Baseball Channel.”
Yes, I know it’s got the “M” and the “L” in the name, plus the word “Network.” But let’s face it. It’s The Baseball Channel and it’s going to be all baseball all the time and I can’t wait.
It has the feel of other great launches and historic events, doesn’t it?
Like Henry Ford’s first car.

Or Steve Jobs’ first Apple computer.

Or the world’s first test tube baby.

(Yeah. She’s all grown up now, with a baby of her own.)
It has the excitement of the Space Shuttle lift off….

and the festive atmosphere of New Year’s Eve in Times Square…

and the thrill I’ll feel when the Beatles finally make their music available on iTunes. (What’s the holdup, boys? I’m getting mightily impatient.)

It’ll be one of the great moments in life, on a par with this.

O.K., no it won’t.
But still. I’m stoked. Only three hours to go.

I think we are all waiting and getting impatient! Thankfully we have a live game to watch from Wrigley Field today! Hockey in a beloved baseball park and the launch of MLB Network. Welcome 2009. It doesn’t get any better then this!

Actually, I’m using the time pre-launch to pay some bills and clean up my desk! Hope you had a good new year, Julia.

Yes, Jane. Forgiven. Now I have to figure out if my cable company carries this channel.

Found it. Chanell 269. They are showing freeze frames with a countdown at 2 hrs 13 min to launch.

Yay! Glad you’ve got the channel, Greg. Really looking forward to hearing Don Larsen talk about the perfect game with Costas. Did you read the article on the New York Times web site about how Larsen got stranded when he flew east to tape the show? I’ll post the link in a sec.

Pretty exciting…too bad I won’t get to watch it :(

One hour and ten minutes now!!! Can’t wait! I was watching the filler they had prior to launch and with the photo montage playing with that dramatic music I was getting quite choked up!

Oooh, Kaybee. Sorry about that. I hate when people talk about something and I can’t see what they’re talking about! But judging by all the blog posts about the new network, you’ll probably get more than you ever wanted to know about it!

Speaking of the music, Jeff, I don’t think I could take it if they play it during every segment, as if everything is on the level of the 7th game of a world series. Hopefully, there will be lighter moments too.

That picture of the first-ever Apple computer is ridiculous. It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come, and how far Apple has come. Wow. Where do you get all your images for your posts?

I know, Joey. That computer looks ancient, doesn’t it? For pix, I surf through Google and Yahoo.

It looks very fun! I want to watch it but I can’t.. oh well. this is going to be great for the huge baseball fans!

And it’s starting in one minute! Wish you could watch but there will be tons of bloggers giving their takes.

i checked the schedule for the mlb network for the next few days, and it’s nice for Red Sox fans..
tomorrow they’re gonna feature 2004 World Series highlights between the Cardinals and the Red Sox; there’s a 30 minute show called Red Sox Memories; and then the next day they’re gonna show one of the games from the 2008 ALCS between the Red Sox and the Rays

So what you’re saying, levelboss, is that you’ll be AWOL for those few days? :)

at first i was gonna say that the mlb network’s got a Red Sox bias, but then i’m a bit paranoid and accusatory at times.. but then they talked at length about Teixeira and how he’s do in a high pressure team like the Yankees and whether Joba should be a reliever again or a starter then i thought there’s no bias..
so i changed my comment to giving highlights for Red Sox fans about the upcoming schedule on the mlb network :)

I hear you. If there’s bias, we will blog our brains out about it. But so far, so good.

She-Fan,

What time will they air The Jim Leyritz News Hour?

Speaking of funny computers. I have an old lap top from 1989 from college. Maybe I’ll post a picture of it. Had not hard drive, so need an MS-DOS boot disk to get to action. Had a two disk drives, though. I remember playing Earl Weaver baseball more than doing school work on it. Haha.

Anyway, was enjoyable to watch the Larsen perfect game and see the difference in how the game is played now to how it was then. It seems to me that the batter’s boxes were further away from the plate than now, as it looked like nobody was crowding the plate. Not too mention listening to Mel Allen and Vin Scully. WoW!

I have the channel on in the backgrond now.

LOL, duque. I’m glad your vacation in the warm climate hasn’t melted your sense of humor.

Loved listening to Mel Allen and Vin Scully, Greg. Can you believe Scully is still doing the Dodgers’ broadcasts? I’m about to do a post about tonight’s “debut.”
